This is the ship’s log — a place to put the things that don’t fit anywhere else on the site.
The rest of the archive is fixed. The crew manifest will always be those eight records. The deck plans will always be those three decks. Chapter one is chapter one. Those pages are the world of the books, and they are finished.
This page isn’t. It’s for everything around the edges: how a manuscript sat untouched for the better part of a decade and then started transmitting again, what the real astronomy of WR 104 does and doesn’t support, why The Crossing and The Descent were published on the same day, and the ordinary unglamorous business of writing a hundred and sixty-nine thousand words while holding down a full-time teaching job.
Some of it will be about the books. Some of it will be about the science underneath them. Some of it will just be about writing, and about finishing things — which turns out to be a different skill from starting them.
